In plain language, at the top, rather than buried in a policy page: we earn commission on purchases made through our links.
The short version
Volt Wool is reader-supported. When you buy through a link on this site, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. That is the only way this site makes money.
You pay the same price you would pay going to the retailer directly. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.
Which links earn us money
Every link on this site is marked, and the buy buttons carry #ad so there is no ambiguity about which is which.
- Amazon — we earn a commission on qualifying purchases. Our Amazon Associates tracking tag is
voltwool-20, and it is appended to every Amazon link on this site.
Links to these do not earn us anything:
- ororo — we are not in their affiliate program. When we link to them it is because it is the right destination for you, and we earn nothing from it.
- Venustas — we are not in their affiliate program. When we link to them it is because it is the right destination for you, and we earn nothing from it.
- Milwaukee Tool — we are not in their affiliate program. When we link to them it is because it is the right destination for you, and we earn nothing from it.
- Gerbing — we are not in their affiliate program. When we link to them it is because it is the right destination for you, and we earn nothing from it.
- Every citation and source link. Manufacturer specification pages, regulatory sources, third-party publishers — those are references, not commerce.
What we do not accept
- Free product. No review units, no samples, no “keep it for your trouble”.
- Sponsored placements. No paid rankings, no paid inclusions, no sponsored posts.
- Manufacturer relationships. No brand has ever seen a page here before it published, and none has any input into what we write.
- Paid links. We do not sell links and we do not buy them.
Why the commission cannot buy a ranking
Saying “commission does not affect our rankings” is easy and unfalsifiable, so here is how the site is actually structured to prevent it:
- Every roundup names something to skip. A list that recommends everything is a catalog, and we have a rule against publishing one.
- Prices come from a live feed, not from us. We cannot make anything look cheaper than it is, because we do not type the number.
- Rankings are driven by published specifications that you can check yourself against the sources we link on every card.
- Safety and care content carries no product links at all. Deliberately, so the advice cannot be shaped by what it might sell.
How prices work here
Prices render only from a live data feed and always show the date they were verified. If the feed has no current price, the button reads “Check price on Amazon” and no number appears — there is no fallback to a remembered figure. A price more than 48 hours old disappears on its own.
Prices and availability change constantly. Whatever the retailer says at the moment you click is authoritative, not whatever we showed.
Link handling
Buy links route through /go/ on this domain before redirecting to the retailer. That keeps every destination in one configuration file rather than scattered through the content, and it lets us measure which recommendations are useful. The redirect path is excluded from search indexing.
Every earning link carries rel="sponsored nofollow", per Google’s link-spam policy.
