For skiing, buy the heated sock you can adjust without unbuckling. A ski boot puts a shell and three buckles between you and the cuff button, so app-controlled socks are the practical choice — and finer control also stretches the small 7.4 V, 2,200 mAh pack (16.3 watt-hours a foot) considerably further.
The constraint nobody mentions in the listings
Heated socks put the battery in a pouch at the cuff, just below the knee. On a hunting boot or a wader that is fine. In a ski boot, the cuff sits inside a rigid plastic shell under a buckled power strap, and getting to the button means sitting on a bench and undoing the boot.
In practice that means you set the socks at the car and never touch them again. If you set them too high, they are flat by mid-afternoon. If you set them too low, your feet are cold on the lift. Neither is a good outcome, and neither is fixable once you are clicked in.

There is a second benefit that follows from the same feature. Three fixed settings force you to over-heat or under-heat, and over-heating is the expensive option: you spend battery you did not need, then run out early.
Continuously variable control lets you sit at the lowest setting that keeps your toes comfortable, which on a 16.3 watt-hour pack is not a trivial saving. It is the same argument as driving smoothly for fuel economy, applied to a battery you cannot reach.

That figure is published on the makers' replacement-battery listings even where the sock's own page is silent about it, which is how we sourced it. The element's draw is not published by anyone, so the exact runtime is not derivable and we say so rather than estimating.
Boot fit comes before any of this
- A fitted ski boot is fitted to a sock thickness. Adding a thicker heated sock changes the fit, and a compressed foot is a cold foot regardless of the element.
- The cuff pack needs somewhere to go. Above the boot cuff is the intended position; jammed inside it is a pressure point that will end your day early.
- Element position matters more in a boot than a shoe. If the sock is too long and the element sits behind your toes, you are heating your instep and your toes are still cold.
- Cold reduces usable capacity. A pack that spent the morning on a chairlift will deliver less than its rating. A warm spare in an inside pocket is the fix.

- A ski boot puts a plastic shell and three buckles between you and the cuff pack. Changing settings means sitting down and unbuckling, which nobody does mid-morning — so in practice you pick one setting at the car and live with it all day. That is the whole argument for app control, and it is why we rank the button-only socks below it here despite them being identical everywhere else.
- A thick heated sock in boots that already fit properly
- A ski boot is fitted to a specific sock thickness. Adding a heated sock plus a cuff pack to a well-fitted boot compresses your foot, and compression restricts circulation — which makes your feet colder no matter what the element is doing. If your boots fit, get them punched or fitted for the new sock before blaming the sock.
