For skiing, a heated mitten beats a heated glove with the same pack, because five fingers sharing one chamber lose less heat than five fingers in separate ones. Packs here run about 16 to 24 watt-hours a hand, and a cold lift day reduces usable lithium capacity further — so format and spare packs matter more than headline specs.

The mitten argument, made properly

Heat loss scales with exposed surface area. A gloved hand presents five separate cylinders to the air, each with its own surface losing heat independently. A mittened hand presents one larger, rounder mass with substantially less surface for the same volume — and the fingers inside are warming each other rather than each fighting alone.

This is why mittens have outperformed gloves in cold-weather clothing since long before anyone put a battery in one, and adding electricity does not change the underlying geometry. A heated mitten and a heated glove carrying the same pack are not equivalent products.

The counter-argument is dexterity, and on a ski day it is weak. You need to hold a pole, work a buckle and occasionally hold a phone. Everything else — the lift, the descent, the lift queue — asks nothing of your individual fingers.

Cold makes the battery smaller

There is a second-order effect on a ski day that most buyers do not plan for. Lithium cells deliver less usable capacity when cold, and a pack strapped to the outside of your wrist on a chairlift is very cold indeed.

So the watt-hour figures below are a room-temperature ceiling, not a promise. The practical consequences: buy a model with cheap replaceable packs, keep the spares in an inside jacket pocket rather than a shell pocket, and expect the second pack of the day to outperform the first because it started warm.

The cuff decides whether any of this matters

Snow entering at the wrist will make your hands cold faster than any element can warm them, and once the liner is wet, the element is trying to heat water. A long gauntlet over the jacket sleeve, or a tight elasticated cuff under it, is not an accessory question — it is the difference between the product working and not.

This also decides the liner question for skiing. A liner inside a proper ski glove gets you the ski glove's gauntlet, waterproofing and fit. Five fingers in five separate chambers each lose heat independently. The same fingers in one shared chamber warm each other. That is a design advantage no amount of extra battery buys back, and on a lift day, where you barely need individual fingers, the mitten is simply the better product.
Any heated glove without replaceable packs, for skiing specifically
A ski day is long, cold and hard on lithium. Cold reduces usable capacity, and a full day of lift-and-run will outlast one pack. A glove you cannot re-pack is a glove that is cold by mid-afternoon on precisely the days you bought it for.

Generally yes. Five fingers in one shared chamber lose less heat than five in separate chambers, and skiing asks very little of individual fingers. You give up dexterity you were not really using on the hill.
How long do heated ski gloves last on the mountain?
Less than the room-temperature figure, because cold reduces usable lithium capacity. The packs here hold 16 to 24 watt-hours a hand at rated capacity; makers do not publish the draw, so we mark the exact hours not derivable. Plan on spare packs kept warm in an inside pocket.
Can I wear heated liners inside my existing ski gloves?
