A heated glove liner is a thin knit glove with an element and a small 7.4 V pack — roughly 16 watt-hours per hand — worn inside a glove you already own. It keeps your existing glove's insulation and fit and, crucially, your dexterity, which is the reason liners stay on hands when heated gloves come off.
The argument for the smaller battery
On paper the liner loses. About 16.3 watt-hours per hand — a 7.4 V, 2,200 mAh pack — against 23.8 for the largest heated glove here. Less energy, no wind protection, no insulation of its own. A spec sheet would rank it last.
The spec sheet is measuring the wrong thing. A heated glove has to solve two problems: make your hands warm, and let you keep using them. Heated gloves are good at the first and poor at the second, and a glove you take off to pick up a screw stops solving either.
The liner sidesteps it. Your existing glove supplies insulation, weather protection and a fit you have already proved. The liner adds heat. And because it is thin, you can leave it on when the outer glove comes off — which is precisely the moment your hands are most exposed.

“Not derivable” means the manufacturer does not publish the figure the sum needs. We leave it blank rather than estimating it, borrowing a number from a similar model, or rounding one into existence. These are the smallest energy figures on this site, and we would rather put them in front of you than bury them. No liner maker publishes the element's draw, so the exact runtime is not derivable and we mark it that way rather than estimating it. What the table does tell you is the ceiling: you cannot get more energy out of the pack than is in it, whatever the listing claims.
It also tells you the fix. Spare packs for this class are inexpensive and small enough to live in a coat pocket, and two packs a hand doubles your day for a fraction of what a warmer glove costs.
When a liner is the wrong answer
- Motorcycling. Constant convective loss from moving air needs sustained output and real wind protection. A full heated glove with a bigger pack and a proper shell is the right tool.
- Long stationary cold with no dexterity requirement. A heated mitten wins outright here — fingers in one shared chamber lose less heat than fingers in five separate ones.
- Gloves that already fit snugly. There is no room, and forcing it restricts circulation, which is a net loss.

- A liner bought to be worn on its own
- A liner has no wind protection, no water resistance and almost no insulation. Its entire design premise is that something else is providing those. Worn alone in real cold, it is a thin knit glove with a battery, and about 16 watt-hours will not fix that.
- A liner squeezed into a glove that already fits snugly
- Compression is the enemy of warm hands. A liner forced into a tight glove restricts circulation, and restricted circulation makes your fingers colder than the element can make them warm. If your gloves are already close-fitting, buy the next size up or buy a heated glove instead.
